QuikClot® EMS Rolled Gauze
OK so you get to a scene. Be it your daughter that fell through a window, a bad car crash or something more South African. You have an arterial bleed on a forearm. You apply your SAM XT, to cut off the major bleed. You still however have a hole that may be seeping. This is where the Quick Clot comes in. It is also a great way of plugging a second hole if you combine it with the SWAT T.
So the bandage is impregnated with Kaolin. This is the active ingredient in Quick Clot. It helps the body to quickly stop bleeding. This particular compound does not get hot and does not hurt the patient like the old stuff used to. So get to the wound and plug this gauze in AS DEEP AS IT CAN. Ok so this part does hurt. Once you cannot physically stuff anymore in the wound leave a small pile sticking out of the wound (this is for extra pressure). And now wrap the SWAT-T around as tight as you need to. Remember the SWAT has a picture on it that changes ship when you reach the correct tension, all printed on the SWAT so no memory needed.
This should stop or (in the cash of a serious arterial bleed) at least help stem the flow. Remember the more blood you can keep in the body the better. The easy to open pouch is great for slippery hands and when adrenaline is pumping. Also available in a much larger roll plus z folded and X-ray findable Quick Clot Combat Gauze.
QuikClot® EMS Rolled Gauze is 3 inches x 4 feet of soft, white, nonwoven, hydrophilic gauze impregnated with kaolin, an inorganic mineral that is both safe and effective in accelerating the body’s natural clotting cascade without any exothermic reactions or use of animal or human proteins. Each QuikClot® EMS Rolled Gauze, Item #475, is packaged in an easy-tear pouch.
